Tasting at Mes and Sims flat. Opaque dark brown beer. Crisp dry palate. Sourish brown malt with some fruit tang. Finishes dry and crisp with a little chocolate coming through and a little spice. Unusual oatmeak stout - no oatmeal smoothness. Decent though.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It pours an almost black body, at least very dark brown and topped by a small, beige head. The aroma has chocolate, coffee, dried fruits and some burnt notes. Slightly milky too it seems. The flavor has burnt malts and coffee. Some chocolate and licorice too. Medium body. The finish is quite long and burnt, with some chocolate to mellow it. A quite decent one. 110319

(bottle) Pitch black colour with a huge and brown foamy head, slowly lacing. Intensively malty, moderately roasted aroma with hints of liquorice, leather, chocolate and coffee. Quite sour flavour with a light bitterness, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Roasty malty and berry-fruity taste with shy hints of chocolate and liquorice; sourish and slightly toasty malty finish. Deserves a re-rate. 11.XI.09

bottle, bought at the brewery, shared with Allen. Deep black colour, creamy beige head, leaving lacework. Lovely nose of roasetd malts, caramel and espresso coffee. Astringent mouthfeel, only very shy malt flavours, rather dry, with hints of coffee and very dark chocolate. Certainly interesting and wel-crafted, but not my cup of tea.

Bottle (thanx to Q.-D.!): Literally black, no idea if hazy or not; sourish-fruity and roast-malty nose with a tinge of turpentine-like necrotic yeast; relatively sour-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; turpentine again in the dry sourish and roasty finish. Over the top.........

Bottle at home ... Big thanks to Fin for yet another Stout mmmmm from my cropredy box ... ... Deep black with a short lived off white head ...sour roast malts ... over fizzzy ... oh yeah def over fizzy ... SO i took a cocktail stirrer to it till it lost some carbonation ... chocolate malts but there a sour edge there thats unbalancing it... reasonably dry ... tiny amount of burnt roast ... decent enough ... shame about sour tinge and its just missing somethinhg

BCA picked up at ’Home and Gardens’ Garden Centre, off A49 between Leominster and Hereford 09-03-07. This was a fine stout, ferociously dry and intensely bitter, loads of burnt roasted malty and bitter coffee tastes, very dark in colour with a light brown head. I didn’t really like this on first tasting because I found it a little to ’in yer face’ and was expecting something smoother and much simpler, but as it slipped down I began to really appreciate what was a very fine stout.
