Port-blended beer since 2010, don’t know if they still make this. Had a pale creamy head and brownish burgundy colour; sweet aroma of honey, milk chocolate, port wine, Belgian chocolates, butterscotch, black pepper and soft, thick palate, a bit fluffy, with lots of creamy and caramelly, full malt sweetness, raisins and indeed a hint of port wine, albeit a little less pungent than I had expected, warming alcoholic finish. Nice.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. Poured up via wooden cask gravity feed with deep copper brown body supporting a nice tan colored head of foam. The aroma is very date and prune and fig like with maybe some toffee around the edges. The taste begins with Quad Abt 12 like flavors such as dates and earthy figs and then it moves into a bit of molasses. By midway extra yumminess just happens as rich deep earthiness and some chocolate join the other notes and takes this experience over the top. It is Quad meets English Style Barleywine and it is all soooo good. Love it!

Draft @ ZBF’12.

Draught Red-brown beer with medium yellow-cream head and fine shards of lace. Port, sweet chocolate & wood. Strangely, not a real sweet or portlike smell. Dull sweet-vinous flavour, with again mild chocolate in the finish. Chestnut flavour too, and indeed, mild portwine - white one? Quite slick, well-bodied, alcoholic palate. It’s an easy mix, but not bad.
