Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence. Pale amber with a scummy looking white head; grapefruit aroma; sweet grapefruit flavour with some sweet bready malts giving body; then a pleasant grapefruit bitterness with a long citrus finish and a touch of spice. I’m not sure that John Betjeman would recognise this as an English bitter, but it’s a jolly good ale nonetheless.
