Pours amber into a shaker. Offwhite head with medium retention. Pine and resin aromas. Full bodied with piney hops from front to back. Dry finish.

Draught, Redbones
Golden, bright. Earthier, English aroma with some caramel. Crisp, but with a sweetish finish. Herbaceous hops and biscuits, slightly toasty malts. Nicely balanced with a pleasing dry finish.

Quickly dissipating white head and a goldish amber body. Grassy hop nose with a citrus touch. Not extreme hops, but moderate. Some bitterness obviously stems from that. Mellow mouth feel Bite after you drink it. Slight, ever so slight, sweetness.

Fresh 2007 bottle drunk on 4/30/07
Dull copper, bordering on a very mild amber, the high clarity gives it a lighter tint. Still difficult to judge whether it’s going to show lots of medium malts or not…Head is off-white and small, showing moderately-low retention and minor lacing.
Lots of fruity hops in the nose are augmented by a deep pine-like dryness that melds with the pale malts to produce a sticky-sweet resin-like note. Juicy grapefruit abounds, with light pineapple and peach notes. Dare I say they’ve used some simcoe in this one? Something like that, anyways. It’s a nice change from the usual East coast IPA, owing to its relative lack of hard, dry, crusty crystal malts and strong toffee notes. Just a bit of caramel, which isnt overly hard/dry, nor does it really distract from the hoppiness, rather giving a solid backbone to the beer. Some acidity builds on the finish, moderately, but is a good offset to the caramel and pale malt sweetness. Medium to medium-high strength of aroma with no flaws/alcohol perceptible.
At first the flavor seems a tad strong on the sugars; mostly a lot of cookie dough and light caramel sweetness. But the brisk carbonation breaks up some of the sweetness and inserts juicy grapefruit and bitter pine notes in the space provided. Despite being filtered and force carbed, there’s still a cohesiveness to the mouthfeel and a light chewiness (malt) on the finish. Definitely a note of some European hops, as there is a tea-like or herbal flavor lying underneath the stronger citrus/pine/yellow fruit notes. Still could stand to be a bit perkier in its bitterness and less sweet, but it’s a welcome change on the actual choice of malts and use of more contemporary hops. Didnt taste any buckwheat. Very well concealed alcohol.
