A deep malt and hoppy aroma with liquorice throughout. Roast malt, fruit and hops also carry through this full bodied stout.

Pours a deep dark brown almost black colour with a reddish hue when held up to the light and a small lasting tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. A roasted malt taste, moderate sweetness with liquorice, coffee and burnt grainy flavours. A dryish bitterness in the finish.

Handpull cask at the Kelham Island Tavern. Dark brown, only slightly translucent. Big tan head. Smells of sulphur and Bisto, not actively unpleasant but not enticing and certainly not beery. Taste is a different world altogether. Sweet, almost milky, with a strong tinge of liquorice and the slightest hint of clove. Nice full body with bitterness in the aftertaste. Not perfect but dangerously quaffable.

On cask @ Cloisters. Appearance - close to opaque black with a decent tan head. Nose - roast and smoke. Maybe charcoal. Taste - more of the charcoal and some chocolate in there though there is a slight astringency on the finish. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly nice dry finish, though as I mention slightly too astringent to go looking for a second. Overall - decent stout.
