On tap at Christian Firtal. Jet black with a creamy and lasting tan head. First aroma impression of tropical flowers, along with lime peel and some heather or rosemary. Dry and hoppy flavour dominated by flowers and citrus peel with faint roasted notes and licorice. Decent bitter finish. Unique combination, and well integrated flavours, though possibly a tiny fruit tea-like note after downing the first half pint...

9th February 2011
On tap at the Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Opaque black beer, little tan head. Slightly dry palate, a little carbonated bite. Reasonably roasty malt. Piney hops. Trace of licorice. Some dark chocolate underneath. Quite a full on black IPA. Had no idea what brewery this was when I drank it and did not detect any hibiscus or rose hips unfortunately.

On tap @ Beer Temple. Almost black color with beige head. Aroma’s of roast & citrus with some bitterness. Flavor is roasted & slightly bitter. Medium bodied. Bitter finish, but quite mild. More like a stout, but nice nonetheless.

(Draught at Pikkulintu) The beer poured almost black and nearly clear. Its head was medium sized and white with brown shading. Aroma had roastedness, hops and liquorice. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roastedness, hops, mildly burntness, liquorice, saltiness, pine and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter and burnt. Otherwise a nice brew but the burnt flavours didn’t please me.

Draught @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki

Dark brown color with minimal head. Taste reminds me a lot of stouts but has a nice amount of hops. A bit unbalanced, though.

On tap. Pours black and opaque with a creamy beige head. First impression is a somewhat perfumy nose then comes dark roast and bitter chocolate. Medium body, lightly sweet roast and again some bitter chocolate covered in these lovely floral and lightly perfumy accents. Fairly dry and bitter finish. Yummy indeed. 141110

Entered to celebrate my rating number 19,000. Draft. Almost opaque black with a brown shine under a huge dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of coffee as well as medium notes of roasted malt, alcohol, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of coffee and roasted malt as well as lighter notes of alcohol and sugar, leading to a dry, very bitter, and medium roasted finish.
