An ale brewed to celebrate the first decade of the 21st century and to be consumed before the end of the second decade. Traquair 2020 is fermented in oak casks for 8-10 days, then conditioned for a few weeks post-oak prior to bottling.

330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 4/16/2010. Pours very hazy/cloudy dark brown color with a small dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light herbal/wood, and toast/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, light cherry, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light herbal/wood, and toast/yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, light cherry, caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, brown sugar, brown bread, light herbal/wood, and toast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and no cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with almost no warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent English barelywine. All around great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle 0.33l at Oluthuone Leskinen, Oulu (as Traquar 2010). Originally rated 31012012. Colour is murky brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Dark fruits, raisins, alcohol, caramel, sweetness and malts.

Bottle received almost 2 years ago when I turned 30. Thank you rlgk! 2010 version. Pours murky wooden brown with a very small beige head that doesn’t leave any trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and vinous with biscuits, caramel, toffee, sherry, sweet dark bread, wood, raisin bran, hay, dates, leather, alcohol and hints of lemon zest, cardboard and smoke. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, malty and vinous with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, port wine, sherry, hay, raisins, dates, prunes, leather, cardboard, soil, wood and hints of alcohol and smoke. Mouthfeel is round, slightly sticky sweet, tiny boozy, vinous and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, tiny bitter and malty with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, port wine, hay and lemon zest. Quite good but starting to get unpleasantly oxidized.

Bouteille 33cl BB 04-2020 as Traquair 2010, courtesy of rlgk. Acajou, col fin beige, blanc cassé disparaissant vite. Arôme est fruité noir avec ce bouquet très anglais au niveau du barley wine, sucre brun caramélisé, léger biscuité et fine note de levure en rétro. Palais est complexe, fruité noir rappelant le raisin sec, prune et figue, le tout ponctué par un léger profil sucre brun et touche de mélasse. Note épicée venant des houblons qui arrive juste après le fruité. Léger terreux, biscuité crystal au niveau des malts. Complexe et un style anglais qui ne fait que se bonifié avec l’age.

Aroma: Dark malt and fruity.
Palate: Medium body. A bit sweet and light bitterness. Creamy carbonation.
Taste: Dark malt, fruity. Well hidden alcohol.
Overall impression: A pleasant surprise.

Aroma is sweet with somewhat harsh malt and ripe fruits. Flavour is rather malty and somewhat harsh with some ripe fruits, raisins and plums. A typical English Barley Wine.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber ruby color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity sweetish malty caramel dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty dark fruit and caramel flavor warming. Had a sweetish malty dark fruit finish.
