An ale brewed to celebrate the first decade of the 21st century and to be consumed before the end of the second decade. Traquair 2020 is fermented in oak casks for 8-10 days, then conditioned for a few weeks post-oak prior to bottling.

Bottle. Pours with a deep, mahogany brown body with a medium sized, khaki head. Huge aromas of brown sugar and dates. Cereal, toffee, alcohol, caramelization, vanilla. Very deep. Flavors of brown sugar, caramelization, prunes, dates, dark fruits. Brandy. Good. Could probably use 2 years of age to its benefit. Medium to lively bubbles. A bit of booze and esters. Nicely balanced for a young strong ale. Tasty.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours darkly ruddy with a foamy beige/tan head. Aroma is darkly fruity and slightly malty. Med body. Flavor is maple?, roasted malt, and hints of dark fruits. Treacle. Brown sugar. Sea weed? Wood. For something that starts simple it gets fairly complex. And the heat isn’t even there. An ale that just stands alone. I doubt there’s anything similar.

Expensive 11.2oz bottle pours garnet – amber with thin tan head. The aroma has an even mix of spices, toffee, black strap molasses, prunes, cherries, figs and sweet molasses. This smells like this beer has great potential with some age and also smells great right now. The taste is very good right now and makes me wish this was cheaper so I can buy more. I get prunes, sweet dates and then boysenberry mixing with molasses. It picks up spiciness midway and ends with sweet prunes, a touch of caramel candy and slick sweet molasses all in the forefront. This is easy drinkin’ stuff for a beer that is meant to be aged. Yum!

Chestnut brown with mahogany accents. No head. The aroma is fruity - mainly dates - and promises an oxidized character. Very sweet - treacly - on the palate. Almost corn syrup sweetness. Fairly soft, creamy body. There isn’t much alcohol taste but it still drinks big.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Olutkellari Helsinki - rating from memory) The beer poured deep dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma was sweet, malty and mildly roasty. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, mild roastedness, molasses, mildly hops and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and malty. Nice balanced beer - not over sweet which is really good.

Bottled@Black Door, Helsinki. Deep ambery brown colour, with mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is spices, raisins, some plum and mild alcohol and vanillaish notes. Flavour is spicy, plummy, a bit alcohol aa well as dark dry fruity. Pleasantly balanced.

Bottle 330ml. @ home.Clear light dark brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, carame, dark berries, dried berries, tobacco. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dark malt, caramel, dark berries, tobacco. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20101109]

Dark brown-ruby color, small off-white head. Raisins, prunes and cola in the nose. Full-bodied. Quite Belgisch flavor: lots of dark fruits (dates, prunes and raisins). Alcohol is reasonably hidden. Sweetish, nice dessert beer. Warming.
