After years of commemorating our anniversary with deliciously wild and weird ales, we decided to mix it up a bit and create our first Anniversary Lager. SEVENTEEN is a celebration and case study of the aromas and flavors of German hops. And knowing our fetish for those beautiful green cones, you can be confident that the contents of this bottle are excessively hopped for your olfactory pleasure. Many thanks to all and we hope you enjoy our lupulin dissertation. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, imported German hops, and German yeast.

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep translucent garnet body, medium tight tan head. Pleasant, sweet nose of berries, toast, and crisped fall leaves. Intense body, chewy and vinous, with chocolate, molasses, berries, marshmallows, and toast, very sweet at first but soon fading to bitter, leafy hops, the overall effect still bordering on cloying after sipping a few ounces. Probably best consumed a few ounces at a time.

Bottle. Ok, but I thought that it would be a bit more special. Chocolate, hops, some mild notes of smoke.

Bomber. Dark brown, approaching black body. Clear. Frothy, brown head, slowly and mostly diminishing. Pleasant aroma of roasted grain and caramel. Strong notes of licorice. Hints of grapefruit and alcohol. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. LIght to medium body, watery texture with fizzy carbonation. Aftertaste is bitter and alcoholic. Strong licorice taste with a lingering note of artificial sweetener. Solid schwarzbier with a disjointed, somewhat strange aftertaste, perhaps a result of the excessive hopping.

Bottle. Nothing spectacular, but a very nice session beer that I wouldn’t mind drink again. Nice fresh hoppiness.
