Bottle (as #213) at ChrisO. It pours deep red-brown, with a thin off-white rim. The nose is freshly baked brown bread, earthy, malt backbone and a touch of raisin. The taste is sweet caramel, earth, medicinal aspect, underlying spice, cardboard, white sugar, hint of dark fruit and some alcohol warmth. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rather odd. Doesn’t quite work for me.

Bottle at home. Pours a nut brown colour, pretty hazy, with a light beige medium sized and calm head. Slightly creamy. Sweet and nut malt aroma with leather and spices. Leather also present in the flavour along with cocoa, dried fruit and some roast with hint of alcohol. Light and balanced bitter ending. Slick and silky moutfeel. A joyful beer that can easily be a companion during the Christmas days.

(Bottle. Labelled Bögedal No 213) Reddish amber colour with brief, foamy head. Fruity nose with red fruit, caramel, toffee, orange peel and a touch of chocolate. Fruity, malty taste with notes of dark fruit, red berries (raspberries), caramel, citrus peel, a touch of chocolate and a slightly bitter-sweet finish with a touch of alcohol coming through. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. A bit different, but nice and tasty.

Bottle, 75cl corked, at Ølfestival 2011, as No 230. It’s an unclear, orange-brown beer without head. Some off-white to beige bubbles though. Caramel and some yeast in the aroma, lightly roasted. Prunes and some grassy and piney hops too. The flavor is sweet, yet dryish, with caramel sweetness, a faint yeasty touch and a decent bitterness. Medium body. Caramel and bitterness in the mostly dry finish. A decent beer I suspect will do much better with the right food pairing than on its own. 110527

Pours brown with a small head and a slight haze. Aroma is cocoa, sweet toffee and dark rum. Flavour is sweet toffee and caramel leading to a booze bitter finish. I would like to call it a Scotch Ale.
