Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Pours a clear reddish brown with a smallish beige head. Lovely aroma of hard roasted malt, dark dried fruits and BOOZE - a little Bourbon also?. Solid body, hard roasted malt, dark dried fruits and a massive hoppiness. Massive alcohol burn. Still comes out quite amazing. 230410

Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Ruby/black, small but persistant head. Minty asphalt and grapefruit assaults my nostrils with pear, coffee and licorice following shortly thereafter. Sweet and massively full bodied with compact, black hole-style mouthfeel. Lots and lots of hops backed by licorice and truckloads of heavily roasty malt. Peppery warming alcohol dominates ths finish. Clean and massive, potent and hugely flavourful, but still not with much depth.

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark brown colour, almost black, with creamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dried fruit, coffee, chocolate and raisins. Possibly a touch of smoke. Roasted, malty taste with notes of dark and/or dried fruit, coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, prunes and a hint of smoke or ashes. Vinous and powerful with a generous, slightly herbal bitterness in the finish. Full body, really heavy on the malt side, but smooth and rounded mouthfeel. Excellent beer!

bottle thanks to Morrie, pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma is very hot and spicey, lots of pepper, licorice. Flavor is nice and roasty with some smoke and peat notes finishing with a spicey alcoholic finish. A nice sipper.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a brown head. Rich malt and toffee aroma with dark fruit. Rich malt and alcohol flavor with toffee and dried fruit. Medium-plus bodied. Rich malt and dried fruit lingers with toffee and alcohol. Alcohol definitely noticeable.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Norm's, 1/12/10

Aroma: Nose of caramel, booze, sugar, raisin, a bit of chocolate, maybe a little grapefruit
Appearance: Dark brown color with a slight red hue, bubbly tan head, streaky lace
Flavor: A big flavor of booze, bitter hops, lots of lingering dark fruity sweetness, and a bitter finish
Palate: An interesting mouthfeel, quite a lot of body, and a nice sweet-dry feel with lingering dryness
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting beer, they really did make this one darn complex. There's a lot of stuff going on with this one. A nice beer for sure. I didn't get the booze in the taste that I got in the nose. I'd say its perhaps a bit too sweet. Not too much more to add other then that, but I like it.

pours dark brown, beige head aroma, chocolate malts, some roast, dark fruits, and light hop bitterness. flavor, found this one to be quite balanced, a mix between thick chocolate malt with firm roast leaning on a mild coffee offering / oat, boozy palate and the hops that blend nicely adding a nice touch to the finish.

On tap at the Greene Leafe - Downtown on 12/05/2009. Dark black body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet caramel, molasses, and light spice aroma. Sweet chocolate, caramel, molasses, and light malt flavor with a good hop bitter background. Medium full body with moderate carbonation. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden.

13 different malts and 13 different hops? Impressive right off that bat. Thick opaque black color with a light beige head. Ruggedly thick darkfruit and malty sugar aroma just hint at what lies underneath. For 13% this is quite drinkable and smooth actually, not far from Wee Heavy territory, more drinkable than a typical Barleywine. Almost soft and creamy on the palate, there is some depth still. Lots of toffee notes. The hops are really outshined, they don’t really add too much other than a pleasant balance. Really impressive this year for it’s subtlety, and relative drinkabiltity. The sweetness starts clinging to your mouth after a few sips, and you know you are drinking something serious, but it still remains quaffable.

2010-04-23, tasting at Papsø, 8-5-8-4-16=41
Dark brown color with red shades; generous creamy head, persistent. The aroma is very nice, with caramel, hops, vanilla and light star anise. Strong body, with powerful dark caramel flavor, sweet and alcoholic (all this well blended together); some chocolate. Strong bitterness. Solid and very good.

2009-10-18, draught at Ginger Man, NYC, 6-4-8-4-15=37
Dark brown to black color; creamy head. Overripe apples aroma. Full bodied, good mix of caramel and chocolate flavor, oxidised, peculiar, quite good. Some warmth from the alcohol. Strong bitterness, but balanced final.
