Cask as Midnight Swan at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Deep mahongany in colour with an attractive ruby tint and a thin tan head; aroma of rich smokey malts with a touch of milk chocolate and toffee; rather thinly bodied, with a dry burnt toast flavour to start, then a mouthfilling bitterness; the finish is sweeter, with some chocolate and coffee and a rounded bitterness. Excellent.
