West Coast Keller - Citra Addition!

Inspired by our lager brewing contemporaries from the west coast of the US. A super hop-forward, aromatic and modrn take on the kellerbiers of Europe. A complete departure from tradition.

We built WCK with our favourite approach to a super sinkable light lager, an already lean beer with a handful of rice. We then fermented warmer, lagered shorter and left the beer ever so slightly cloudier than usual. We typically aim for a very restrained yeast expression in our lagers, but this time we’ve really accentuated the character of our house strain.

Many bags of Citra hops later and we’ve got one of the most archetypally Newbarns beers we’ve ever made. Thumbs up all round.

Can from Appellation Wines. Pale golden body with a light haze and a few flecks beneath a thin white head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of grass, lemongrass and white bread. Flavour of lime jelly and a grassy finish. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. This is crisp and bitter but a bit one dimensional.

Can direct from Newbarns. It pours clear pale yellow with a small dissipating white head. The aroma is fresh, quite green, grassy, herbal, melon, savoury, cracker, greengage, cucumber and pissy accents. The taste is super firm, dry, crispy, pleasing level of bitterness, green, grassy, herbal, fragrant, floral, straw, pissy and crackery malt with a drying finale. Average body and fine carbonation. Quite a green, grassy number. Enjoyable anyhow.
