A top fermented ale that is aged with porous Faroese rocks. The rocks are heated to 800°C and then placed in the wort, where they then caramelize the brew. This process, combined with the specially selected hops, creates a unique spiced flavour.
Okkara Rinkusteinur pairs best with dark meats, such as lamb, but it also combines wonderfully with cheese platters and other high-fat foods.

On tap at Ølfestival 2011. A clear, copper colored beer with a finger-thick off-white head leaving lacings. Malty aroma with some caramel, quite fruity and lightly roasted. The flavor has caramel, roasted malts and some fruityness. Decent bitterness, both in the start and the end. Dry and medium bodied. A quite nice beer, maybe for lunch? 110527

500 ml bottle, from Rusan, Torshavn. ABV is 5.8%. Brewed with Faroese volcanic rocks that are heated to 800 degrees C before they are placed in the wort. Reddish amber colour, pearly carbonation, low off-white head. Nice aroma of malts, caramel and some grassy hops.Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has some malts and caramel, without being sweet, but the body is too thin for its strength, and the hops are too moderate. Still a drinkable beer.

Big creamy tan head. Bright clear amber body. Light fruity perfumy aroma with malty floral notes. Dry-sweet perfumy fruity taste with floral notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, soft and a bit flat mouthfeel. Dryish banana and flour aftertaste with metallic fruity notes. Flawed. Too thin and flat. (0.1l taster at DBF’11.)

100ml on tap at the Beer Festival in Copenhagen 2011. Bright naked surface to a clear amber body. Malty-fruity aroma. Toffee and caramel malts in flavour added by herbal hops. Subdued bitter endnotes and oily palate. Quite alright (27.05.2011).

Bottle from a trade ogivlado had with faroeviking (thanks!) Poured a lovely shiny amber body with a big off white head that went away at a medium pace leaving heaps of lacing. Woody fruity soft malty nose. Slight spicy Belgian ale-like taste ending with a light dry bitterness going into the aftertaste. Slightly perfumely, soft and overall just a touch too light. Definitely likable.
