[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading.] An opaque peaty brown pour with a tight beige head; aroma of chocolate malts; quite thin in the mouth, but with a delicious bittersweet taste of purple fruit and well roasted dark malts that seem to dissolve in the mouth; leaving a dry earthy finish with a touch of chocolate.

Cask stillage at the brewery. Poured a clear dark brown colour with little life. The aroma is roasty malt, light spicy ashtray. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, somewhat light, molasses, light chocolate, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Gravicask, half pint, shared with Finn at St Albans Beer & Cider Festival 2023. Jet black body under an off-white head, clingy lacing. Promising smell of mid-sweet chocolate malts. Mixed taste of creamy chocolate, earth and a backdrop of dark fruits. Rounded roasted end. Nice and easy to drink (St Albans, 27.09.2023).

Cask at Albion, Winchester. Mocha aroma. Dark cola brown. Thin creamy beige head. Light bitter with a dark berry streak. Creamy coffee then comes through into the finish. Mesium bodied. Thin cream. Flat. Long finish which takes on an astringent element. Decent enough porter - the creamy coffee lifts it.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars’ Hampshire Beer Festival, Bristol 2/05/2011. Near black with a creamy, off-whit head. Aroma of milk chocolate, coffee and a touch of dark fruits. Slightly oily mouth feel. Flavour had more chocolate, a hint of roastiness and a dryish finish. Good.
