Cask handpull at Westgate JDW Canterbury. Brown bitter colour with no head. Its a bitter with real muddy earthiness on the finish. Some acidity along with the earthiness. Its ok. Not too keen on the earthiness. Not a great bitter.

(bottle) Hazy, dark amber colour with a big but loose tanned frothy head. Yeasty and slightly acidic roast-malty aroma with hoppy and phenolic spice, accompanied by notes of caramel. Sour and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roast-malty and fruity taste; sourish and slightly hop bitter finish. Most probably this one was already over the edge. 07.X.09

Bottle many thanks to Loz’s sister Jude for getting me this for my birthday, consumed 22-11-09 Pours dark brown with not much of a head. Fruity in the mouth, not as bitter as expected, some dryness, tangy, it’s fine. A6 A3 F6 P3 Ov12

Bottle (thanx to Quack-Duck!): Deep amber coloured with ruby sparks, bigger - slowly collapsing - fluffy and lacy head; solid phenolic-yeasty nose with a certain acidity, supported by a malty and hoppy background; moderate sourish-sweetish flavour, quite soft and light bodied; lingering sourish and malty-hoppy finish. Interesting, but presumably infected. It is the question, if it was the brewer’s intention to create an english sour ale.........
