As with the 02.02.02 and 03.03.03, we are again making a detailed homebrewing recipe available on our blog. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of kaffir lime leaf and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Bière de Garde/Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen-style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf. Perfect for a match-up with some Thai in SoCal (or wherever in the world you might be), as kaffir lime is often combined with garlic, galanga, ginger, fingerroot and chiles (in the Tom Yum that is, not in this beer). Or, most certainly, you may choose to enjoy alone in a glass along side its Epic brothers.

22 ounce bottle at the Relentless Thirst Gathering in Richmond, VA, 8.29.09. A totally unintentional 2100th rating. Cool. Pours a clear golden amber color with a thin head. Syrupy honeyish aroma with spicy and nutty notes. Taste is honey, bread, peppery spice and leafy notes. Also some toastiness and fruitiness. Medium bodied,

Bottle. Pours with a hardly any head and a deep golden body. Aroma of raisins, bread, honey and berry. Taste is baked bread, berries, oxidation, banana and must. Tickling carbonation and a water like mouthfeel. Still quite good.

Bottle, 22oz. Pours a slightly hazy golden body under a nice dense head. Orangey hops dominates the aroma, with some herbal notes and a malty sweetish aroma to give some balance. Sweet and fruity in the mouth, with white sugar, some alcohol and caramel. Full-bodied, slightly warming. Sweet finish. A nice beer, but too strange to be real good. (081229)

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-golden color with a medium sized yellow-white head and lots of small floaters suspended. The aroma was sweetish and tangy with lemon and yeasty elements. The flavor was sweet and very yeasty and bready with a light lemon-lime undertone and a dry must middle and a long bready finish. Thick and chewy. Surprisingly subtle for Stone. Very nice.

Stone Half Vertical tasting. No head, which was a surprise compared to the previous years. Deep golden color. Caramel, bready with a touch of lime exuding from the nose. Malty sweetness is also a bit more present than I expected. Lime hits up front, caramel, smooth wheaty body that boders on cloying and then pulls back. Lingering sharp finish that came across has a fruity, oaky chardonney with a squirt of lime. Very interesting and my favorite of the Verticals.

Part of a vertical in Tokyo; thanks marc! Slightly hazy yellow with a nice white head. Citrus, lime, some soap, herbal, spice, yeast, and some alcohol in the aroma. The body is a bit thin, but not distracting. Flavor of bright citrus, earthy, lime, spices, yeast, light soap, and a overall wispy sweetness. Finishes dry with some alcohol fumes. Found this to be a bit soapy, but real good regardless.
