As with the 02.02.02 and 03.03.03, we are again making a detailed homebrewing recipe available on our blog. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of kaffir lime leaf and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Bière de Garde/Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen-style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf. Perfect for a match-up with some Thai in SoCal (or wherever in the world you might be), as kaffir lime is often combined with garlic, galanga, ginger, fingerroot and chiles (in the Tom Yum that is, not in this beer). Or, most certainly, you may choose to enjoy alone in a glass along side its Epic brothers.

Just had a bottle at the Norfolk Taphouse, what a find! Pours a slightly hazy orange color, small almost non-existent white head. A little bit of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Aroma was a little citrus hops (almost lime). The flavor was utterly amazing. Did I detect some coconut? It sure seemed like it. A little bit of a malt and grass kick to it as well. Extremely smooth beverage, and the alcohol presence was almost non-existent. If I ever find this beer again (or if I get the pleasure of grabbing a bottle at some point) I’d love to see how it ages in 4 or so more years.

Aged bottle at Monks Cafe......Cloudy golden color..with a frothy thickness to the head...total lime on the forefront, followed by a malty sourness...key lime pie with an insane floral quality...jasmine?...medium-bodied, with just a touch of bitterness...a wonderful strange brew

Bottle 65 cl Slightly hazy amber golden with a small, off-white head. Aroma of fruit and aroma hops. Fairly full-bodied with some caramel, lightly perfumy hop accents and a bitter, hoppy finish. Decent but far from outstanding. Courtesy of Storm. 120207

Lightly hopped. Sweet malt balanced by a tripel-like fruitniness. Cloudy orange color. Hops are considerable for the style.

Managed to find a bottle of this. Poured out with ample carbonation to bring about a thick white head. The color has a hazy orange-ish hue. I get the aroma of lime and banana mixed with alcohol, interesting. There is a bit of malt aroma hiding out in the back. The taste reminds me of many a Belgium type beer with the spice presence along with the twisted yeast-lime-banana-hop combination. The flavors are just picked from the garden fresh.

Lightly hazy golden ale with a no head. Tangerine spicey malt with honey notes in aroma. Very restrained in mouth, but classy, with notes of ginger, coriander, and honey. Upon reading the bottle, I note the limeleaves in mouth. Nice lingering sustained hops. Very good. (Spring 2005)

Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Strong aroma, verging on the unpleasant, with notes of oak, brown sugar, lime and molasses. Flavour is oaky, alcoholic and too sweet, with notes of lime and lemongrass in the background. Not a love affair for me this one.

Paid $6.22 for a 22-ozer. Light golden with a large head. Bubblegummy aroma... smells a bit oversweet. Flavor is a lot less sweet than the aroma, and is very pleasant. Flavors include apricot, cinnamon, banana, lime, pine, and other inserted spices. Very nice flavor!

A hazy orange beer with a small disappearing white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of fruits especially lime, but also lemongrass as well as perfumy notes of hibiscus and orchids. The flavor is sweet spicy with notes of lemongrass, oranges, alcohol, and hibiscus.
