St. Giles pours dark brown with an off-white head. The nose is a combination of traditional Scottish malt and American Cascade hops. The taste is full-bodied, ruch and smooth with coffee and chocolate flavours. Brewed with the intention of adding a slight twist to the Scotch Ale style and named after one of Edinburgh most famous landmarks, St.Giles Cathedral.

330ml bottle from the brewery. Pours chestnut brown with a very thin white head which doesn’t hang around. Aromas of toffee and a hint of chocolate. Hops are quite distant, but a touch of pine comes through. The taste has more, and an earthy note. Finishes with a smooth latte bitterness. Good.

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, light red-brown with a frothy, off-white head. Dusty, toasty malts with notes of pine, leaves, dirt and ripe citrus. Light to medium sweet with a smooth, toasty malt character, light cocoa notes, some dry earth, subtle burnt grass. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, some toasty cocoa, a bit of dry and earthy bitterness, light orange rind. Very, very pleasant.

Dark caramel brown..thin white head..bit of lacing..Aroma of dark malts and a tiny hint of chocolate....Taste of dark caramel malts....some grassy hops...Palate - moderate carb...thin to medium body....some sweet malts...Finish is some malt...rapid...residual light mineraly bitterness.
Overall - Bit disappointed with this, rather plain - its OK but nothing more than that.

Cask-conditioned at the Abbotsford, Edinburgh 7/06/2011. Ruddy brown in colour with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of sweetish raisin fruit with a touch of nuttiness. Flavour of toffee, oranges and earthy malts with a moderately bitter finish. Good.

Re-rate. Great chocolate on the nose and taste this time - it cleans away just nicely with the piney hops. There is also more creaminess on the palate this time! Rating from 03/07/11 5/3/5/3/11 = 2.7 Brown in appearance with a red hint. Green vegetable, earthy and nut notes on the front of a malt/caramel background. Nutty and earthy on the palate and quite drying on the end. Initially delicate weight, but creamy texture and persistent length.

Bottled. A hazy red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, bread, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a dark amber with a slight haze and a huge and frothy off-white head. Lovely nutty nose with some burned caramel. Medium body, sweet roast and again burned caramel and nuts. Ends dry but not really that bitter - a vague ashy whiff. Very pleasant and balanced. 050111
