St. Giles pours dark brown with an off-white head. The nose is a combination of traditional Scottish malt and American Cascade hops. The taste is full-bodied, ruch and smooth with coffee and chocolate flavours. Brewed with the intention of adding a slight twist to the Scotch Ale style and named after one of Edinburgh most famous landmarks, St.Giles Cathedral.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Murky, chestnut brown. Barely a head. Nose has vine fruit. Some fudge and chocolate. Some treacle. Some woody undertones. Smells great. Taste is chocolatey and treacly sweet, with a woody and slightly earthy bitterness. A little dry, too. Smooth mouthfeel. Vinous and fruity finish. Nice one.

330ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy, dark nutty brown with a large but short-lived beige head. Burnt toffee and dried fruit aroma, flavour is similar, sweet without being sickly. A little thin, would love to try a higher abv version of this with a bit more body

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Dark brown, opaque, not much head. Chocolate, oak chips, a touch of whisky in the aroma. Sweet taste, not cloying but maybe a touch too sweet. Having said this, it’s got good flavour. Long-lasting yeasty toffee note carries to the short to medium finish. Body is flat and oily but that’s not the end of the world. Good beer all around.

Ever-so-slightly hazy brown beer, head disappeared basically straight away having been brown and lively.Light aroma of caramel and chocolate. Taste has those qualities too, with a touch of apple and some earthy malt. Slightly tangy fruit in the aftertaste as well as the caramel which underpins the whole thing. Nothing really jumps out though and it’s a touch watery, but there’s potential here.

Bottle. Smooth floral and malty beginning. Nice roasted malts together with a very dry and intense body. The mainpart is smooth, fresh, easy to drink but still intense. Dry malty aftertaste with roasted & sourish hints. Caramel, espresso and a nice malty-dry aftertaste with only hints of bitterness. Nice!!
