The November 2024 edition of the mighty Hagger!
Hagger is a blend of selected barrel aged barley wine.
The complex aroma and taste of dried fruits, dark and sweet caramel, vanilla, coconut, cocoa, slight roast and berries is a product of a complex brewing technique combined with the carefully monitored maturation in oak barrels. The bulk of it is bourbon barrel aged and the rest can be aged in other spirit barrels.

Picked up in a very expensive bottle shop in Wien a couple or so months ago. Consumed at home Thursday 3rd September 2026 after a Dirty Chicken Curry for tea, listening to Riley & Coe (btw it's just Gideon Coe tonight). Pours very dark brown edging towards black, little to no head. Soft mouthfeel, very sweet but also quite addictive, oaky aroma with notes of vanilla and whisky or perhaps bourbon. This is a very good barley wine displaying all of the usual attributes but appearance wise looked as flat as a pancake and rather drab. Score: 7.6

0,375l bottle at home. 11/24. Dark brown color, tiny head. smells bourbon, vanilla, whiskey, nutty, dried fruits, raisins, light sweetness, very nice smell. full body, light carbonation. tastes oak, bourbon, vanilla, lightly nutty, light oxidation notes, spices, lightly boozy, tobacco. finishes lightly sweet with notes of vanilla, bourbon and nutty notes. Very nice one, very bourbon forward. Not your typical barley wine, not that sweet, very good balance overall

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 30/03/2025.
Extremely dark mahogany brown topped with a beige cap that escapes edgewards.
Nose is ripe fruit esters, herb, spice, toffee, bourbon nip, earthy.
Taste comprises stewed fruits, brown sugar coating, spice, herb, molasses, toffee, vinous strains, dates, figs.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with a balanced rising boost.
Solid life.

Been awhile since I enjoyed one of these! Near clear dark beer, a small bubbly tan head lasts about as long as I do in my dreams that involve Raquel Welch. Palate is fairly light, but has a slight viscous smoothness and good fine minerally carbonation. First impressions - lovely ripe
fruity .bourbon barrel aged BW, slave to the barrel but that's fine in beer terms. Second impression - yes, nice Cognac flavours coming through, some savoury barrel to alongside oak induced vanilla and a little bourbon induced coconut. Possibly a little red wine BA element in here as well. Beyond that, is beyond my ability to discern. As per with Hagger blended BA barelywines, rather good!

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black, tiny beige head. Biscuity and woody nose, some milder chocolate and slight alcohol. Pretty sweet start, lots of dry fruits. Mild bitterness, slight roastiness. Slightly warm, lasting aftertaste. Medium body. Very drinkable.
