Bitch Creek ESB was first brewed in 2003, and perfectly balances big malt sweetness and robust hop flavor for a full-bodied mahogany ale. It has quickly become our best-selling beer, as well as our most-critically acclaimed, having won medals-including two golds— at four out of the past five Great American Beer Festivals.

XX Bitch Creek Double ESB is all that and more. We took the Bitch Creek recipe and doubled everything: double the malt, double the hops, twice the flavor.

Tasting at Papsø
Cloudy brown color. Nice hop aroma, American, resiny and sweaty. Simple caramel flavor, chocolate, with some residual sweetness, good hopping, resiny but not aggressive. Strong bitterness. Unfocused but pleasant.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops, grapefruit, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, caramel, and bread, leading to a dry and very bitter finish.

1 L bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is wooden and dark malty. Light fruity accent. Smooth caramelish and roasted to dark breadish malt flavoured. Interesting with rather aromatic US hops to counterbalance the dense malt flavours. Gives a citric twist, yet also towards dominant in the flavour profile. Dry and citric into a dry finish.

Bottle - thanks ditmier. One of the most beautiful pours I have ever seen... Dark auburn with a mountain of thick, creamy nutmeg colored head. Aroma is rich with sweet caramel, citrus, and floral hops. First sip is a smooth and mellow malty blend with faded hops. Some piney notes and earthiness before a lingering floral bitter tail. Still, quite smooth. Kinda has some chocolate in teh back... Great balance and blend, truly one of the better GT brews sampled to date.

Bottle marked 9/25/2008 thanks to mar. Pours with brown tan head over a deep amber-brown body. Aroma of hops, maple, bitterness, and molasses. Taste is a syrupy mess in my opinion. Very sweet and syrupy up front with a completely disconnected and harsh bitterness that finishes up the flavor and lingers. Syrupy mouthfeel.
