Draft at waterfront. Poured a darkier burnt siena with a medium to mild head. Malts, breads, a caramel taste but a bit o a hops finish. Not bad.

Bottle. Dark amber in color. Good off white head, small amount of lace. Aroma was dried fruit, slight caramel. Taste seemed a little too hoppy for a Doppelbock. Overall not bad but not my favorite.

Bottled. Ambery brown colour with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, mild nuttiness along with some alcohol and mild toasted notes. Flavour is nutty, toffeeish, a bit toasted and some alcohol. Rather low on the bitterness.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger dense light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, molasses, toast, nuttiness, biscuit, toffee, earth, herbal, and slight esters. Nice aromas with good strength, balance, and complexity. Taste of caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, toast, nuttiness, biscuit, earth, herbal spiciness, and some yeast esters. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, raisin, toast, nuttiness, bread, toffee, herbal, and light esters on the finish for a good bit of time. Good balance and robustness of flavors; a bit too estery at times; some mild cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is decently well hidden with only a moderate warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid imperial doppelbock. Some nice flavor robustness and balance; and fairly smooth to sip on. A bit estery at times, but still quite enjoyable; though definitely a slow sipper. This improved a lot as it warmed up to room temperature.

Cask at Pony Bar, Manhattan - 29/02/12. Medium brown in colour with a frothy tan head. Malts, caramel, alcohol and dark sugars on the nose. Sweet tasting, malty, earthy, dark fruits and alcohol. Medium bodied, not as chewy as I thought it would be, a litle biterness in the aftertaste and a little alcohol burn. I enjoyed this but thought the alcohol could have been better hidden.

Bomber. Pours hazy brownish orange with a nice beige head. Aroma is extremely malty--it smells cloying. It’s full of caramel, raisins and fruity esters (apple). The taste is, as expected, really sweet. It has a toasted bread character. Despite the almost over-the-top sweetness, it finishes quite bitter. Full-bodied with an oily texture. It’s still not cloying after half a glass, thankfully. I fear it will get just that if I let it warm up any more, however.

Appearance: Clear dark amber with a nice creamy off-white head and good lacing
Aroma: Sweet caramel and toasted malts
Taste: Sweet caramel, brown sugar and bitter ripe fruit in the finish
OK but way sweet for me. I had no idea this was 10%, good thing it was so sweet I couldn’t finish the pint.
