Bottle from Statale Nove, Crespellano nr Bologna, Feb 2011 consumed March 13th 2011 Pours a reddy brown superb clarity with off-white head. Aroma is malty with sweet dark sugars the main notes, I really didn’t get too much smokiness going on here. Flavours were toffee and malts, it was a little on the sweet side and the smokiness of this beer was very subtle, in fact I can well understand caution in not going overboard but this really sat somewhere between a smoked beer and a heavy malty, sweet ale. Nothing wrong with it other than it needed to be ramped up a bit on the smoked side. A6 A5 T6 P3 Ov12 3.2
