(750ml bottle from the brewpub c/o my better half) Pours opaque near-black with a thick pale brown head showing very good reteniton and spotty lace. Aroma is roasted malt, black licorice pretty prominent though it fades a bit with air, confectionery chocolate, earth, moderate coconut flesh, creamy vanilla (ice cream-adjacent), some dark roast coffee, . Flavour is fairly sweet up front, fairly fruity dark caramel malt with fairly prominent roast, black licorice, cocoa, moderate coconut, quite some floral vanilla, becoming moderately dry mid sip to finish with roast and soft alcohol drydown, coconut and especially vanilla more promient into the finish, earthy, lightly to moderately bitter burnt grains, rather nutty, a little licorice in the aftertaste. Medium-plus body, oily, very soft carbonation, a little alcohol warmth. This is a very roasty pastry stout, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Adjuncts nicely dosed without dominating, maybe a touch of fade (but in the fridge since purchase).
