Created by the brewery’s founder, Quilter’s Irish Death is The Iron Horse Brewery Flagship Beer. The color of this beer belies its drinkability. We lovingly refer to it as beer candy. Irish Death is loaded with a f#*!-ton of different malts and just enough hop presence for balance. Smooth enough to session, but too strong to do so.

Draught at Kokopelli, Port Angeles
Dark brown color with red shades, and creamy beige head. The body is a bit lighter than expected, the mouthfeel is smooth; good mix of roasted malts and chocolate flavor; correct bitterness.
Akin to some Scotch Ale. Pleasant.

Med brown color. Sweet lactose nose. The mouth is very malty, but too cloying and rich. Too sweet not much depth. Not horrible but wouldn’t reorder.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Sweet dark malt nose, some milky cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, sugary milk cocoa, light alcohol, some berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, sugary malts, bread, some sweet chocolate. Simple but decent for the style.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a hazed brown hued body with a small tan head. Aromas are hugely estery, brown sugar, dark fruits, caramelization, molasses, mildly spicy notes with a touch of roast and dark chocolate. Flavors show some umami meatiness, smokey (medium smoke), caramelization, very malty with mild esters and light chocolate. Medium to slightly fuller body, lightly warming with medium to slightly fuller carbonation.

22oz bomber poured into a shaker. Pours a very dark brown, but not quite black with about a finger of off-white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Caramel, chocolate and coffee with a little sweet cream at the very end. Medium-full bodied with a creamy yet sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a very long warming finish. Overall, very good. I would love to drink this again in the future.

It pours black with a 1 finger head of off white foam and has some nice lacing.
It smells roasty with a hint or 2 of fruit, but the nose is very light and I’m serving it at room temp.
There’s some roasted malt in the taste, a touch of fruit, a light tartness, and quite a bit of a milky flavour. I don’t find this dry at all and if I had to put a style label on it, it would a Milk Stout. That being said, it’s tasty and brings quite a bit of warming.
On the edge of being full bodied with a light amount of carbonation, it certainly IS a smooth one. I like it.

Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. Murky brownish color with a medium dense light beige head that recedes slowly to a film. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate malt and coffee. Medium body with a sweet malty character and flavors of grain, toffee and cocoa. The finish is toasty malt with a lingering sweet aftertaste that leaves hints of licorice. Above average overall.
