Draft. Lactic lemon malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet milky lemon malt and hay flavor. Very nice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Mastikim. Thanks beerandbeyond. Deep orange-amber color. Aroma of malt, caramel, some fruitiness, cookie notes and light yeasty notes. Sweetish flavor, malty, fruity, a bit caramelly, with light sourness, yeast and some spiciness, especially in the finish. Medium-bodied. So-so.

750 ml bottle. Cloudy orange amber color with a small beige head. Nice clinging lace. Fragrant toasted malt aroma with notes of cinnamon and coconut. Tangy toasted malt flavor is redolent of tropical fruit and sweet caramel. Light floral hops balance the residual malty sweetness. Sweet cloying malt in finish and aftertaste.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy copper color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, caramel, earthy notes and a dry fruitiness. The taste is bready malts, caramel, herbal hops, mild spice. Medium bodied.

Bottle at the Funky 8, Brooklyn, NYC. Nice and bready. Some caramel, light fruits, spices and yeast. I can understand why some folks don’t like this style, but I think this is a good example of biere de garde at its best.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip. Bottled 2/4/2011. Pours a lightly hazy dark orange with minimal head. Aroma is mostly spicy yeast with a little citrus. Taste is light sweet. Caramel, wheat and some citrus. Medium bodied with a creamy and sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, great. I would love to drink it again.

From the 2/2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a murky orange-caramel color with a trace white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was bready with a faint musty and citric undertone. The flavor was tart citrus and bread with undertones that were musty and dusty. The finis was medium length and dry with a bit of citrus, must and bread. Medium body. Ok.

On tap at the bottleworks. Spice and sweet malt aroma. Orange-gold with off-white head. Great balance of esters (not really to style, but nice here), spice and biscuit malt (true to style). Burnt fruit with medium mouthfeel.

750 ml bottle. Bought at Schlafly in 2007. I think this one’s ready! Pours a big fruity ester smell into a Stella glass. Tangy orange beer color, pretty clean looking, and a ring of foam around the edge as remnants of a puffy headed pour. Taste is full of big fruit flavor, a little cider, some pear and a note of plum. Bracketed around this is some green apple tartness and a bit of funk. Yep, a definite thread of a Belgian sour ale in there, and it’s all for the good. Hops are in the background, as might be expected, and add to the malt "forward-i-ness" of the beer. Pouring further from the bottle brings up more haze in the beer, as I stir up the yeast in the bottom. The bottle conditioning gives a nearly champagne like effervescence, albeit at a lower pressure and with less risk of frothing over. I believe I paid $7.50 for this big boy at Schlafly Bottleworks. Bet you can’t sneeze at it for that price now.

Enjoyed on tap at Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis, MO as part of a sampler. Appearance somewhat clear brown amber with faint white head. Aroma of orange peel, sweet, what comes to mind is ’bananas foster’ where you get that fruity element with a slightly boozey backing.
Taste is delicious. Wild yeast brings out the floral elements with banana notes and a bit of orange. Slightly sweet, caramel malt is present. Goes down very smooth, good good stuff.
