This French farmhouse-style ale has tart fruitiness from the yeast and a sweet maltiness from the grains. A modern re-creation of a classic European beer style to celebrate St. Louis’s French heritage. Pairs well with fruits, cheeses, and cured meats.

Bottled. Poured a darkish gold with a real deal head. Fruity aroma, yeasty taste with some floral notes. Pretty good stuff.

Undated 750mL bottle shared by Brian on 10/15/16. Probably a few years old at this point.
Still very nicely carbonated with a big, off-white head that is well-retained, topping a cherry-tinted auburn-golden body with good clarity.
Oxidation is very apparent in the nose, but it’s not of the cardboard type. Rather, dates, vanilla, cherries, almonds and such arise having blended with the varied fruity malt notes, caramel and toffee sugars spicy phenols and light earthiness of the yeast. More fruitiness as it warms in the form of apples, cherries and pears, with big vanilla notes from the oxidation. No alcohol or flaw.
Fairly sweet in the mouth though the oxidation somewhat works against that. Definitely not underattenuated, though, and malty as many true BdG’s are. Big fruity notes, lots of vanilla and medium-dry caramel, with yellow fruits, spicy phenols and earthy, mineral-laden notes from the yeast. Malty texture with strong, but mostly tight carbonation and no alcohol or flaw. Cool, been a long while since I thought of Schlafly and this was a fun one to see. Thanks, Brian.

750 ml bottle shared by Willrunforbeer. Orange in color, thin bubbly head. Aroma is delicate, bread, sugar, and light oxidation.

Flavor is yeasty and bready. Dried fruits, honey, orange peel, mild cardboard.

Light oxidation but to be fair, this is well over a year old. I will grade on a slight curve.

Split a 750ml bottle. Poured a dark orange color with a medium sized fluffy-white head. Aroma was light spices, light floral notes, some malt notes. Flavor was floral, sweet malt, funky yeast notes.

16oz growler pours a hazy pineapple orange with some creamy, swirling white head. Nose has quite a bit of bubblegum and clove, some tropical fruit too, some candy, some straw. Flavor is candy sweet, some mango, some dried pineapple chunks, bubblegum, a little anise too. Sticky finish. I get that the style is a bit of a catch all, but this had way to much wit character for me. I was expecting something with a bit more of a malt backbone and more subdued yeast components.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep orangey color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of grainy cereal notes with quite a bit of residuals sugars. Taste is also a mess with an overload of residual sugars and some grainy cereal notes with some funny ester. Body is semi-full with medium-to-low carbonation. Incredible mess with a definite lack of attenuation.
