Toffee brown, medium-bodied, with a creamy head and an aroma of raisins and freshly baked dark bread. Mild Winter’s rich caramel malt and spicy rye flavors are sure to take the bite out of whatever Old Man Winter brews up for you this year.

12 oz. bottle. New Goose bottled beer? Yes, please. Smell is a nice, lightly roasted malty beer with the slight spiciness of wheat, or in this case, rye. Dark brown color, like their Hex Nut, thin whitish foam. Taste does not quite fit their description as a red ale, closer to a, well, nut brown. Malts are mellow, smooth, and thisclose to coffee roast. But soft and spicy rye are in fine proportion, making this a highly recommended pleaser. If only the real winter of 08-09 was mild, too!

Much better the second time. Lots of malt on this beer with a grain sweetness. Very low carbonation, smooth, thick palate. No hop presence really, and that is OK. Mild malt, some grain. Medium palate and dark brown, very little carbonation. Kind of soapy. 332/5/2/12

Bottle. Dark, clear reddish-brown body. One finger of off-white head, quickly diminishing. Aroma of caramel, rye and spice (ginger and a hint of cinammon), nuts and toast. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. The finish is lightly to moderately bitter and lightly to moderately sweet. Aftertaste of rye and tea with a touch of caramel. Medium body with a slightly syrupy texture. Lively carbonation. OK, though the sweetness rather than the rye jumps out front. One was enough.

This brew pours a clear dark amber color with a medium fluffy off-white head that diminishes slowly. Small patches and strings of lacing. Aroma of malt and barley plus a little rye. Light body with flavors of bready malt, hops and rye. The finish has a doughy malt flavor and a mild hops aftertaste that does not linger long. Slightly above average overall.

12oz bottle from drewbeerme. Clear, filtered brown color. Aroma is metallic, empty chestnut. A bit of syrupy bark as well. That translates to the flavor and finishes with a weird sweetness, very artificial. Otherwise, rather unremarkable. I have a new name for GI, the Saranac of the mid-west.
