Aroma: The nose has a lot of bourbon, with some coffee, chocolate, and dark roasted malts.
Appearance: The look of this beer is a dark brown, with a dark, whispy head on top of it.
Flavor: The taste is basically a strong porter completely dominated by bourbon.
Palate: The body is medium-full leaning toward the full side, smooth, and with a lot of burn from the ABV.
Overall Impression: This is a decent Porter, it has a lot of good flavors to it, and it it pretty well-made. My only issue with it is that it just had too boozy of a feel. Other then the fact that it is too boozy for my tastes, I think it is pretty good. Solid enough stuff.

Bottle 65cl. @ post Borefts BF 09 hotel tasting [ As Full Sail Imperial Porter ]. [ Trade by Papsoe ]. Clear dark black color with a average, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, dark roasted, burnt, coffee, light to moderate hoppy, vanilla notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20091031]

Bottle 65 cl. Comes as "Full Sail Imperial Porter" at 7% ABV. Pours black with a warm orange hue and a dense, creamy light brown head. Intense aroma of roasted malt and a little licorice. Medium body, hard roasted malt and some licorice. Somewhat oxidized with a tired mouthfeel. Light malt bitterness. A little over the top I believe. 110709

2009 Edition. Pours with a nearly black body and a mocha colored head. Very pretty. Excellent retention and very nice lace. Aroma is rich and roasty, with vanilla, chocolate, light leather, candied walnuts, backstrap molasses, and cocoa. Taste is cocoa, nuts, roast, some smoke, light alcohol with a nice bitter finish. Creamy carbonation and light bubbles.

Bomber [without ’Top Sail’, but same description and ABV] from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours dark and opaque with a large tan head. Aromas of coffee, dark roasted malt and dark chocolate. Flavor is about the same, but the chocolate and coffee match the malt. Finishes rather dry and bitter.

Rather than do a re rate, I deleted my original rating and am entering this in hopes of some admin actually listening to me. I had the Topsail back in 97 and this is NOT the same beer. That was only 6.2 % and nowhere near as a big a brew as this one.There was an Imperial in 96, and the Topsail in 97 Black, thick lasting brown head.Roasty nose of light alcohol and brown sugar. Big chewy roast profile. Medium alcohol mid, lots of roasty bitterness in the finish. Great lacing

Bottle courtesy of Greg Koch at our stop at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens on 08/03/2008 on day three of RBSG 2008. Vintage 1999. Dark brown body with a small light brown head. Rich malty aroma with some roast and caramel. Bacon, roast, caramel and smoke flavor. Medium body with low carbonation.
