Sample at Rattle N Hum. Darkest brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, oak and malt. Medium body with flavors of milk chocolate, oak and earthy malt. The finish is sweet with an oak and chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

Tap at Sugar Maple. Smooth oaky chocolate aroma. Rich cocoa tones. Relatively mild ABV really helps the malt shine. Luscious, rich, malty. Really well executed and enjoyable. Sort of a one-dimensional cocoa stout, in that it doesn’t have much hop character, but still good.

Great. Pours with carpet lacing, black with some clear ruby tinges. Aroma of booze, cereal, sugar and creamy consistency. Leave is sour and a little bitter. Good for oatmeal stout. Tap at Hopcat.

New Beer Distributors, NY 650ml ($5): Pours black with creamy light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and dark, bitter chocolate, along with a bit of dark roast coffee. Taste is somewhat sweet. Mouthfeel is pretty thick. Leaves a rather sticky taste in the mouth. Some amount of bitterness. This is a pretty good stout, which is more like an imperial stout.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some nice spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, chocolate, oak, roasted malt, oats, earth, caramel, toast, and some chemical alcohol-like aromas. Unimpressive aromas; the phenols are pretty bad, and throws off the balance. Age is probably a factor here, and it also feels a bit stale. Taste is pretty good: chocolate, roasted malt, oats, caramel, toast, earth, light dark fruit, light oak, and herbal hops. Lingering notes of roasted malt, chocolate, toast, oak, earth, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Pretty nice flavor balance, with fairly robust flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an ok oatmeal stout. The age was definitely not friendly to this one, and I remember enjoying this more the last time I had it(which was likely much fresher).
