12/11/12/11/8/12

Bottle @ home. 2011 vintage. Dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Rich oaty, roasty dark malty, slightly woody, a touch grainy aroma. Sweet dark chocolate malty, rich caramel, tasty oaky, rich oaty flavor. Nice brew.

Mellow and smooth, coffee-laced but firmly centered on roasted malts, with restrained oak on the finish. Tastes roasty and dark, oak-tinged and smooth as silk. Seriously. This brew has texture of legend, thanks to the oatmeal mixed with oak-aging. Just make sure you don’t drink it super-fresh; this bottle ages very, very well. (1/21/09)

Pours a nice deep, dark brown that allows just a hint of light through. Small to medium-sized frothy head that quickly dissipates. There’s a strong, bitter roasted-grain flavor at the front. Some hints of chocolate, though not sweet. Quite the bitter beer, all-in-all. Interesting, though not all that great.

Bomber bottle. Used a snifter. Pours a dark brown /nearly black. Almost no head, with small lacing. Nose shows coffee, some chocolate, very mild grain character, not very pungent. Oak character begins to show with warmth and starts with notes of vanilla and wood. Flavor is strong with a more forward dark grain character, prominent roast, coffee and dark chocolate, mild notes of molasses, some vanilla and wood shows with warmth. If you like oatmeal stout, this is a good one.

Tap at Victoria’s in Maryland. Black, pours like a Guinness, but tastes much better. Typical nitro head. Mouthfeel like Guinness also. Smoky edge, not over the top. Decent.

Bottle: Pours a deep, dark brown with a thin brown head. Nose is sweet and roasty with hints of chocolate and the barrel aging. Smooth blend of flavors from oak to chocolate, with roast and espresso. The oak mellows out the bittersweetness, but its still there. Smooth. Very enjoyable.
