22 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA, opened 6/14/10. Pours a dark brown color appearing an opaque black in the glass. Medium head with good head retention and lacing. Fairly assertive oak on the aroma long with roasted malts, caramel, soy, butterscotch. The taste is big peppery wood notes, roasted malts, chocolate, a bit of caramel, and a leafy hop finish. Medium bodied. Fairly decent.

Black with a lasting tan head. Aroma of licorice, roasted malt and charcoal with a touch of dried fruits. Dry and roasted flavour with ink and licorice and weaker fruit and biscuit notes. Very weak oak notes with a burned finish.

A deep dark stout with a thin moka head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, light metallic notes, dark fruits and molasses. In mouth, a sweetish bitter chocolate, coffee, vanilla, not a lot of wood, rich and smooth. Tasted with Diogene, ProbstK and Mike H., April 10 2010.

Almost totally black pour. Only up to strong light does any of the dark garnet hues come through. Tall, creamy, long-lasting tan head. Roast malt, some coffee and chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is nicely balanced, some sweetness ,some roast bitterness and a creamy smooth palate delivery. Nice.

Bottle. Really weak stout. The oak ageing has made this beer way too sweet and therfore lame and uninteresting. The taste is thin and short.

Finally this came out in 12 oz bottles. Pours a dark brown with a lively head and aromas of earth, peat, wood, a little chocolate and coffee. That said, they are a little understated. Flavor is decent... lots of chocolate and coffee, with a surprising sweet brown sugar edge, some charcoal and vanilla. Pretty smooth across the palate with alcohol sticking through the edges. It could be a bit more polished, and at time seems to be working in opposite directions (sweet vs. earth/peat).

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a black color with a medium sized beige head that lingered and created good lacing. the aroma was sweet toasty malts with notes of vanilla and cream. The flavor was sweet and toasty with fairly strong notes of vanilla, cream and fruity hops. The finish was long. The body was thick and silky smooth. Excellent.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Gilly's, 1/15/10

Aroma: An aroma of toasted malts, nuts, dark chocolate, earth, a bit of fruit
Appearance: Dark brown/black color with a creamy light brown head, some lace
Flavor: Tastes is moderate-high sweet, some oats and earth, mild bitterness
Palate: A medium bodied beer that's creamy and smooth, and really hides the ABV
Overall Impression: At first, I didn't really get the whole oatmeal stout name because I hardly got any oats in the nose, but then when I drank it, I could taste the oat flavor. The chocolate and dark malts seemed to dominate more in the nose, at least from my point of view, but the oatmeal and oak/earth come through in the drink. A very nice, dry roasted stout flavor.

Pitch black color, small off-white head. Licorice, oak, vanilla aroma. Licorice, toasted malts, vanilla, oak and toffee in the flavor. Easy to drink beer with smooth palate.

Balanced aroma of cocoa and prune with even a bit of blueberries. Black pour, thin tan head, some lacing. Charred oak, with faint coffee flavor on the edge. Bitter bark , green oak, and pepper finish. More bitter and harsh than other oatmeal stouts I’ve had. Lacking balance.
