Great Divide's mantra is that real fruit makes real beer, so Great Divide ferments Wild Raspberry Ale with hundreds of pounds of real red and black raspberries. Wild Raspberry Ale is a truly effervescent, ruby red ale that achieves the almost impossible balance between malted barley and tart raspberry fruitiness. Its naturally tart character makes Wild Raspberry the ultimate accompaniment to spicy Mexican food or on its own as a stand-alone session beer.

On tap at brewery. Pours a murky red coloration. taste is of tart raspberries, honey, bread, and barnyard. I am not the biggest fruit beer person but after a full day of drinking it was nice to switch things up.

[9/23/10] Draught at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Clear red with a somewhat pinkish head. Aroma of raspberry and sugar. Sweet and slightly artificial flavor with raspberry, a bit of malt and a slightly bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied. Drinkable but not a good fruit beer.

On tap at Beer Temple. Clear dark amber colour, off white head. Aroma of a standard lager with artificial raspberries. Flavour is the same, a bit papery, grain, raspberries, sweet. Thin bodied. Meh..

New Glarus has the market cornered on raspberry and cherry ales, so it’s always hard to compare other brewers’ fruit ales. That said, Great Divide’s Wild Raspberry isn’t too bad. It pours a beautiful ruby red with mid-level creamy head. The flavor of raspberry is there, along with some grass and some citrus notes. Rather than push the fruit to the front, they’ve tried to mix the fruit and the hops/grain of the beer. It’s not as sweet as some, but doesn’t taste as awful as some attempts at fruit beer I’ve tried.

Bottle. Poured ruby red with a too thick white head. Slight aroma, maltiness and raspberry. Light bodied with more raspberriness. This is rather tart the description does not lie. Lingering tarty raspberry finish. This will grow on you a little

bottle, pours dark purple with a medium white head. Fresh raspberry and pale malt aroma. Light pale malt and a nice fresh raspberry and corriander in the finish. Kindof like a wit and fruit beer combined. It’s alright.
