In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

750 mL bottle; from the date code looks like it was brewed in the latter half of 2009. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Flavor has floral hops, yeastiness, bread, citrus, bits of honey. Flavor is still strong in hops, floral and lemony citrus, wheat, honey, and a well-integrated yeast presence, with a nice bitterness. This is really nice and I’m glad it’s held up.

Scharfer Hopfengeruch, eindeutig diesem Bier zurordbar. 11/12/12/13/14/12

Bottle at my new grocery store which has a solid C rating for craft beer so while pricey I went with this Hopfen-Weisse and I’m glad I did. Pours a dirty orange with huge frothy white head. Smells of citrus, hops, and yeast. tastes of wheat and is plenty bitter. Its tangy and has hints of peaches and bananas. There is a spiceness to it and a slight alcohol burn for a summer beer which I like. Very nice Monday night beer.

(Bottle) Golden yellow colour, hazy, with frothy white head. Fruity nose with orange, lemon peel, apricots, pineapple, bubblegum, clove and lots of fresh grassy hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, dried apricots, bread, clove and fresh grassy, slightly citric hops in the finish. More than medium body. Surprisingly dry, with something reminiscent of dry champagne. Some alcohol coming through towards the end, almost giving it some Belgian triple style character. Excellent beer combining the best from both parts. Very nice!

Refrigerated 750 ml bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours a deep golden/light orange color with big white head. Aroma is excellent and body is also. Taste is complex fruit and banana in the beginning, and finishes strong pine hops. Taste finishes with too much hop bitterness for me; even if it sold for half the price I wouldn’t buy.

Bottle from Deveney’s, Dublin, drunk on the Amsterdam ferry with Slothez. Poured a fantastic looking super hazy dark yellow, with a fading off white head and some decent lace. Juicy citrus and fragrant hop aplenty in the nose. Thick and full mouthfeel. The flavour was simply lovely with loads going on... notes of banana, clove, lemon, yeast, wheat and hops. Very nice balance to this. Lingering fruity finish. Can’t recall enjoing a beer of this style more.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy gold orange with a white head that laces nicely. Aroma has nice notes of clove, banana, citrus and a slight hint of hops. Flavor starts with sweet banana and a touch of clove. It builds through with some hops and a bit of a metallic taste.
