The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.

First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

Bottle @ home. Yellow / golden color, small white head. Average smell and taste, yeast and hops. Kind of weird, not really like other IPAs I’ve tasted. Pretty flat and a little dull. Carbo good, body medium.

12 ounce bottle into tulip, bottled 12-20-2010. Pours slightly cloudy amber color with a fairly dense 2 finger white head with good retention that reduces to a fairly thick lacing cap that lasts. A small amount of lacing is left on the glass. Aromas of orange, pine, spices, and lemon. Nice balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of bread, with lots of spices on the front. A bit of citrus and pine in the back with some spices and a decent amount of bitterness that lingers on the finish with spice and citrus notes. Medium body and medium-high carbonation. Nice and smooth drinking, with no alcohol in the taste and a small warming on the finish. Overall I definitely enjoyed this one, very nice Belgian IPA.

Bottle towards its BB date, need to sample a fresher version. Golden, low head, suspended sediments. Belgian golden ale fruity yeast aroma with a light sulphur note. Starts on a rough leafy note, mellows out onto a fruity and aromatic hoppy base. Light sparkly and creamy body, with a slight hole on the tip of the tounge, lacks chewyness in the finish..

355ml bottle. Blonde appearance with a good head. The nose is of goat’s cheese and oatcakes. The taste has yoghurt on a green herby background. The palate is rich but not quite as balanced as I would have preferred. Interesting beer.

On tap. Pours with a lightly hazed golden body and a white head. Aromas are estery, banana, orange, citrus and vanilla. Flavors are bready, with a noticeable grain based astringency. Hoppy, bitter and estery. Lively and dry.
