A stronger belgian personality. On tap at the Vintage Estates, nice place. Looks like a pale lager with a decent head. Smell is rather clean and beery. Fairly strong on the initial impression. Hides ABV raher well for a 7+. Smooth and rather enjoyable at times. Good fizz for a stronger brew. Finish is a little bitter. Building bitter on the finish.

Bottle (May 5 bottling). Ebullient is a great word that doesn’t get much use. But there it is on the label of Great Divide Belgica. Promising. Unfortunately, Belgica left me anything but ebullient about it. Maybe if I had slammed three or four of them, I would have been ebullient, but I didn’t. Or maybe Great Divide is simply referring to the lively carbonation in this clear, deep gold beer whose white, fizzy head disappears quickly. The aroma is full of solvent (ebullient with esters?), canned corn, resin, pine, grass and toasted malt. The flavor is light to medium sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter — a bitterness that lasts a long time. Medium body with a watery texture and ebullient carbonation. The flavors just don’t meld and I was left with the impression of having chewed on bitter vegetables. I poured it down the drain ebulliently.
