This is an old Dutch IPA recipe reminiscent of the ones that use to ship from Amsterdam to the East Indies. Unlike traditional English IPA's though our Van Vollenhoven EIPA uses less hops and gets its bitterness from the addition of Spanish Brandy to the beer which was a technique used by the brewery back in the 18th and 19th centuries.

33cl bottle – Pours a lightly hazed pale amber colour with an average size, mostly lasting, creamy white head. The aroma is fruity and floral, light malt, pear, lemony and sweet citrus notes. A moderately sweet fruity taste, pear, apple, light caramel and lemony flavours with sweet herb and hoppy bitterness.

Avec une base miel et pêche beaucoup trop présente, l'amertume, pourtant à 44 d'IBU à toutes les peines du monde à enlever cette East Indies Pale Ale qui mine fine est très poussive. Cela manque également d'originalité côté arômes sur une légère amertume sur le agrumes mis à mal par la base douce et un moelleux qui prend beaucoup de place. Bref, si cette pale ale n'est pas mauvaise elle ne nous fait pas voyager. Le visuel n'est pas non plus exceptionnel avec un blond voilé quasiment sans mousse. Le nez est sur les agrumes, le miel, la pomme de terre. Pas enchanteur. L'attaque heureusement présente une amertume appréciable et fraîche bien que simple sur les agrumes et de très légères herbes. La deuxième bouche est poussive avec la base maltée douce qui prend l'ascendant. Arrière bouche et final sont un peu plus élancés mais sans imagination. L'alcool à 6,5 % manque quant à lui de pep's et corpulences et longueurs ont moyennes. J'ai du mal à comprendre à qui s'adresse cette bière.

On tap at Poesiat & Kater, pours a clear copper golden with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out bitter pine, crisp biscuity malt, and gentle earthiness. Flavour is nicely bitter, with lots of pine cones, earthy hops, and crisp biscuity malt. Finished with piney bitterness that is very sharp. Pleasant stuff.

Tap. Pale blonde. Citrus, white pepper and grass in the aroma and flavor. Slightly perfumed. Nice grassy hopkick in the finish. Could be more brutal.

Clear blond colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of very fresh sweet pale malts. Nice dry finish. Really similar to old style English Golden Bitter.
