This imperial Schwarzbier is an extreme version of traditional German black lagers. Velvety smooth, rich, and intense, it’s brewed with traditional lager yeast and cold-fermented for three whole months.
This beer combines the drinkability of a lager with the depth and intensity of an imperial stout. It features deep, dark, and robust notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee, with a long and complex aftertaste. 450ml can. Jet black colour with average, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, dark beige to tan head. Roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty, minimally caramel malty and minimally resinous, hoppy aroma, hints of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, couverture, a touch of liquorice. Taste is roasty, minimally chocolately, dark malty, slightly caramel malty with some residual sweetness, mildly bitter, resinous and slightly piney hoppy, hints of dark chocolate, dark caramel, some roasty and hoppy bitterness, a touch of liquorice.
Oily texture, smooth and soft, minimally greasy palate, fine, mildly prickly carbonation.
Quite resinous and oily, homogeneous - good.

Can courtesy of Kostas Kykao brewery and consumed sat outside Frank at Auto Camp Sani , Brodarica, Croatia, Tuesday 9th September 2025 after a long walk around the maze of alleyways and streets of Šibenika earlier and a lovely seafood lunch at Bistro Luce & Brigita. Pours black with a beige coloured head, thick mouthfeel, roasty with coffee and a little nutty edge. This is a big, big beer, a little bit sticky, some dark treacle touches but all told surprisingly drinkable despite it being practically Imperial Stout territory. However despite being a good beer a 450ml can is hard to drink alone 🤣.
