Aroma: heavy, raisin, no coffee aromas - rather poor. Very low bitterness, tastes slightly sweet. Full body, heavy (too heavy for me), creamy, low carbonation. For me does not taste like a Czech dark lager, more like a Baltic porter - too heavy and not refreshing at all. Big disappointment.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 14.02.2009
Aroma is slightly sweet and malty with some syrupy notes and hints of herbs. Flavour has bready malt, roasted notes and some chocolate. Slightly harsh finish with coffee and hints of metal. Better than I expected.

Thanks to quack-duck for that one. Bottle looks good but a bit complex. Beer in the glass also black, small head. Starts mild-malty, not as strong as exspected, modest dry. Well balanced, but could show more character. Finish soft-malty, modest bitter. Not bad.

Bottle. Caramel, chocolate, and toasted malt aroma. Murky dark brown with a small tan head. Toasty malt, chocolate flavor with a light roasty bitter/spicy finish. Medium body, lively carbonation.

Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. Clear dark brownish color with a medium frothy beige head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Aroma of toasted malt and a bit of caramel. Light-bodied with a toasted malt character and notes of mild hops and ripe fruit. The finish is short and malty. Pretty average overall.

Draft at one of my locals, Churchkey, in Washington DC! Whoa! Murky dark brown color, tan head, solid lacing. Aroma of chocolate biscuit and a bit of pepper. Taste starts sweep and syrupy, then only a bit of bitterness to balance. OK.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours tanslucent light brown with small beige head that disspates fairly quckly. Some thin small bubble lacing, thin body, and roasted malt aroma. Taste is clean roasted malt and some crisp hops in the finish.

Total Wine, Fairfax ($2.50): Pours a rather dark brown with a small head. Aroma is slightly fruity, barely roasted, and malty, Taste is malty, slightly sweet, and has a dark fruit feel to it. Really easy to drink and very well balanced. I thought this was a pretty good go.

500 mL bottle. Pours dark brown, with a medium, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is molasses, dates, and a little red wine tannins. The flavor is very sweet, with a little bitterness. The palate is medium, syrupy and sticky. Overall, this is a malty, sticky beer. Not my favorite, but not bad.
