Single hopped Australian pale ale. A new beer fom the team here at Thornbridge “Galaxia”. The name might suggest it’s from the stars but it refers to this being a single hopped pale ale – a beer brewed to showcase the Australian hop variety Galaxy.
Caolan Vaughan our resident antipodean says ”Using our fantastic pale ale recipe allows this stunning hop to transform this beer into a pleasurable experience in a glass - one for all hop lovers”. The Galaxy hop imparts striking beautiful aromas of mango, guava and grapefruit. While providing an intensely tingling bitter finish.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a small frothy off-white head and good lacing. There’s mango in the aroma plus a hint of caramel. In the mouth it has floral hops to the fore and a concoction of various fruits, mango, kiwi, melon and traces of lemon and grapefruit. The finish is slightly dry and bitter. It’s quite reasonable.

Keg at TFRNV, Bristol Feb 2016. Pours clear pale golden blonde beer with an off white cap. Aroma: bread, melon, lime zest, grass, hay. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, bright, clean, dry, apple, pear, gooseberries, lime, melon. Medium body with soft carbonation. Nice expression of the Galaxy hop.

Golden ale hopped with Australia's superstar Galaxy, from these pioneers of modern craft brewing in England. Intricately cobweb-lacing, off-white, thick but opening, irregularly mousy head on a completely crystal clear, pale golden blonde beer with fierce strings of sparkling rising up from the bottom. Aroma of freshly cut green apples, halfripe green kiwi, damp hay, green melon, white bread crumbs, tulips, freshly cut woodsorrel leaves, lime peel, raw 'courgette', parsley, soggy breakfast cereals. Clean but crisp, fruity onset, hinting at green apple, hard pear and a dash of unripe banana, fizzy and minerally carbonation adding further crispness, slick mouthfeel; sweetish white-bready maltiness, aromatized by the Galaxy with retronasal aspects of crushed green gooseberries, lime and green melon but also bittered by a spicy, eventually slightly rooty bitterness. The rounded, simple but rather full-bodied malt sweetishness comes through in the end, but the Galaxy sure gets its moment to shine. Bright, crisp and easily drinkable golden ale, very British indeed but with the Australian twist performing well, both in terms of aroma and bitterness. Quenching and likeable enough.

Cask at Euston Tap. Slightly cloudy blond/amber colour, with white creamy head. Aroma is slightly twiggy, pine hops, some lemon and a bit of stink. Taste is smooth and creamy, some citrus. Nice, but something weird in there too putting me off a bit. Not really getting all the tropical fruit to be honest.
