Russian Imperial Stout made with smoked jalapeños from McClendon Select and smoked over Arizona mesquite wood, all aged on cocoa nibs (Papa New Guinea and Belize).

Well, well. What sits in front of you, this thick, monstrous, viscous … this is the Russian Imperial Stout. This is the crème de la crème of the beer world. The empress of Russia couldn’t get enough of it. This being the US of freaking A makes this the free world’s style, thus, the American Presidential nomenclature. Catherine the Great would have sat in the Hermitage and asked why jalapeños smoked over Arizona mesquite were used. We say this to CTG: This is ’Merica and this is Wilderness. This is OUR stout. Enjoy — we poured our hearts and souls into this one!

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of black cholate notes with light chile notes are quite interesting. Taste is also a mix of black chocolate notes, roasted malt with some light chile notes with light residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Solid imperial stout and jalapenos are very well balanced.

Tap @ CBC. This is interesting. Pours black with a brown smooth creamy head. Aromas of smoked jalapeños. It’s like opening a jar of those suckers! Dark bitter chocolate, dark dried fruits, earth, roasted malts. A slight smoked quality to it. Slight vanilla and nuts. Taste is quite pebbery and salty with jalapeños as the first thing that hits you. Slight vanilla, chocolate, dry and roasted. Slight smoke.

Dark brown, thin head, vanilla, peanut butter, lots of chocolate, rich, thick and delicious. Okay this is really good, getting into that dessert mode. (note: Bought some cans and I don't think they were at quite the same level, but still solid.)

16 oz. can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is loaded with robust roasted malt upfront, with wood, and a hint of cocoa (no notice of the hot peppers). Flavour is robust and complex, with wood, robust roasted malt, dry cocoa, and a tiny hint of peppers on the end. Complex, deep, chocolatey. Excellent.

Tap into a taster at MBCT showing dark brown with sparse latte colored foam. The nose shows pronounced notes of roasted coffee with vegetal notes of green pepper. The palate is full bodied and moderately carbonated. Very coffee forward with bourbon around the edges. Slight alcoholic spice throughout with a smokiness and bourbon bitterness on the finish.

Tap @ Mikkeller Beer Celebration Tokyo, Yellow Session. Dark brown pour, brown foam. Smoky chilli nose, leather, chocolate, bitter. Taste is leathery, smoked jalapeno really coming out nicely coffee. Sweetness totally overshadowed, so this one is not sweet, somewhat rough, smokey and delicious treat. Lots of jalapeno heat and tingle. Totally loving this!

Big body tons of roasted malt, mesquite, wood, molasses, dark chocolate, smooth. Spice hits the back of your throat. Super balanced. Alcohol well hidden and spiciness continues. Amazing

Draft pour at Churchkey. Poured a dark brown color, nearly black, with a light tan head. Aroma was roasted notes, chilies, chocolate roast. Flavor was smooth, roasted notes. Chocolate. Creamy character. Alcohol is really well hidden. Tasty.
