Intriguing doses of sweet spices, cocoa nibs and pumpkin transform an exceptional porter into a mesmerizing potion. Pour this tantalizing brew into a snifter and experience its many eccentric nuances, which will delight your taste buds.
This is the same award-winning recipe that garnered a GOLD MEDAL at GABF in 2007. Formerly known simply as Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, we’ve named it T.R.E.A.T.: The Royal Eccentric Ale Treatment.
TREAT melds rich decadent flavors into an enticing brew that is perfect for pairing with both sweet and savory dishes. Add depth to desserts like pumpkin cheesecake, bread pudding and tiramisu. Reduce this porter down then glaze grilled meats. Mix Moroccan spices with TREAT to marinate lamb shanks before slow-roasting. The options are endless. But the most important step is pouring yourself a lovely glass of TREAT to enjoy with the rewarding results of your efforts.
With so many tones and textures to experience, will you find this brew… Demented…or delightful?

Bottle: Poured a dark black color porter with a nice medium brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cinnamon and light roasted malt with some light pumpkin undertones. Taste is a complex mix between some cinnamons, some light dry roasted malt with some light pumpkin notes, some nutmeg and a nice rich black chocolate finish. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This is quite a unique recipe with loads of complexity while retaining a good drinkability level.

Bottle thanks to my friend Jamie: Poured a black brown with little bubble head. Aroma was clove, spices, pumpkin, and chocolate. Taste was very delightful with nice warming clove and spiced pumpkin, and yet had a sweet chocolate malt finish.

250th rating of this beer. I thought this was my 4600th rating, but apparently I don’t know how to count, so its actually 4599. Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big pumpkin and squash notes, earthy and peppery notes and roasted malts. The taste is tart pumpkin notes, spices, roasted malts, chocolate, earthy hops. Medium bodied. Nice.

Location: Bottle at Max and Andy's Fantasy Tasting, 5/1/10

Aroma: The aroma has a lot of spice to it, but not too much pumpkin
Appearance: A dark brown-black pour with a fairly small head
Flavor: Taste is more chocolaty than the nose, but spice flavors as well
Palate: The body is fairly smooth and silky with low carbonation, medium to full
Overall Impression: Overall, I thought this one was pretty good, but it was quite as good as I had wanted it to be. I would have liked a little more pumpkin in the spice, but all-in-all not bad. The chocolate malts really come through in the flavor as well, though they are not nearly as prevalent in the nose. In the end, this one is a solid offering.

Bottle. Pours black with brown head. Nose of cocoa, pumpkin, clove, cinnamon and lots of nutmeg. Taste is very spicy. Lots of initial nutmeg, cinnamon and clove. Pumpkin and cocoa are in the background. Nice body. Well balanced.

On tap at Brouwer's Cafe, pours dark brown / black. Aroma of pumpkin, roasted malt, licorice and booze. Flavour is essentially the same - I don't really like the hybrid between the pumpkin and imperial porter here, but it's solid for the effort.

No idea who brought this bottle to the DC gathering, but I thank them very much. I am normally allergic to any pumpkin beers, but this one had an interesting aroma of nutmeg and chocolate cream pie, with a flavor of cocoa, spice and fruit that was not over the top. Highly recommended.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown with little to no real head. Nose is spicey, heavy on the cinnamon and cloves before a little of the cocoa comes through. Just a bit of the nutmeg. The taste is spicey up front, again cinnamon and cloves play the major role. A delicious chocolate syrup (ala taking a shot of Hershey’s right out of the bottle) kick before finishing with the nutmeg. Leaves a spicey, lingering cloves finish. I can’t really pick up any pumpkin until it warms a little more as it blends in very well. Smooth and lots of character. If available, I’d drink this all the time.
