This is the same award-winning recipe that garnered a GOLD MEDAL at GABF in 2007. Formerly known simply as Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, we’ve named it T.R.E.A.T.: The Royal Eccentric Ale Treatment.
TREAT melds rich decadent flavors into an enticing brew that is perfect for pairing with both sweet and savory dishes. Add depth to desserts like pumpkin cheesecake, bread pudding and tiramisu. Reduce this porter down then glaze grilled meats. Mix Moroccan spices with TREAT to marinate lamb shanks before slow-roasting. The options are endless. But the most important step is pouring yourself a lovely glass of TREAT to enjoy with the rewarding results of your efforts.
With so many tones and textures to experience, will you find this brew… Demented…or delightful?

Bomber received by my Secret Santa (winter 2012). Thank you joeneugs! Pours viscous black with a small fizzy mocha head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is malty, tiny fruity and very spicy with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate spongecake, roasted pumpkin, liquorice fudge, moist soil, caramel, toffee, cloves and hints of alcohol and ginger. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, malty, tiny fruity and slightly spicy with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, cinnamon, dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, sweet liquorice candy, pumpkin pie, black forest cake, alcohol, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar, cinnamon buns, caramel, toffee, hay, moist soil, charred wood and hints of ginger and cocoa powder. Mouthfeel is round, soft, velvety, tiny roasted and spicy astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter, malty and slightly spicy with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, vanilla fudge, caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, moist soil, chocolate cake, hay, roasted pumpkin seeds and hints of cloves, ginger, alcohol and sweet liquorice candy. Is gets slightly too spicy as the beer warms in the glass but all in all this is a spectacular porter with lots and lots going on. It’s making spice/herb/vegetable look sexy and that’s definitely something.

Bottle courtesy of ericdevin. Sweet lactic cocoa and light vanilla and spice aroma - really no pumpkin to speak of. Black brown with a small tan head. Sweet chocolate, cola, vanilla, and vegetal flavor with a light dusty-roast finish. Full body, soft carbonation.

Bottle @ Stephen’s house courtesy of arminjewell. Thanks! Pours a black appearance with a brown head. Spicy nutmeg, toasty bready, mild caramel, mild pumpkin, chocolate aroma. Dark chocolate, lightly toasted pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, spicy flavor. A little chewy. Solid but nothing super special.

Pours thick and black with a fleeting tan head. The aroma is gingerbread cookie dusted with powdered sugar. The flavor is pumpkin, pie spice and finishes with a spicy tartness. Interesting and tasty; just not the kind of beer I will drink often.

Bottle at ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to Colin for this rarity. Pours thick black with a creamy, beige head. Dark malt nose with hints of gourd and light spices. Medium to big sweet flavor, heavy on the dark malts with background pumpkin and mild, earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with rich bread, gourd and pumpkin sugars, light roast, mellowed dark malts. Super drinkable.

Nose is dark malts, dark fruit, spice, sugars, molasses, licqourice. Taste comprises sweet sugars, pumpkin, ripe fruits, dates, chocolate, figs. Full end of medium bodied with soft carbonation and some bitter sweetness in the finish. Good stuff.

Rated two nights ago as part of our annual pumpkin beer night. Bomber. Pours opaque black with a collapsing tan head. Aroma is pumpkin pie spice, burnt caramel. Taste is sweet, savory, meaty, peppery and roasty. Has a real pumpkin flavor. Finishes lightly tart. Has a creamy mouthfeel. I like the fact that I can actually taste the pumpkin in this. A lot of pumpkin porters/stouts have little to no pumpkin flavor. Nice one.
