The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream.

Pitch black color. Light brown head. Molasses, dark fruit, roasted malt in the nose. Thin mouth lots of dark fruit, roasted malts, molasses with a very smooth body, probably good on nitro. Lacking roastiness. Nice without being outstanding

On tap at Happy Gnome. Pours near black with a yellowish light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has roasted malts and lots of bitter dark chocolate supported by dark grains. Flavor has intense roasted malts and dark chocolate up front with a growing dark grain note.

Big and black on the pour. Nice head baby. Typical roasted beer aroma. Doesn’t seem thick and not viscous. Flat. Leathery feel to it. Taste is not infringing into the impy territory. Just a good overall stout this is. Not bad on the finish.

On Tap very deep black. Full and lasting light tan head. Very roasty straight forward aroma. Mostly roast, not much of the other subtle related flavors that some stouts have. Fairly high IBU .

Keg at Whole Foods Short Pump. Pours black with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, leather, green hops, match heads. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, resin and piney hops. Medium bodied, well balanced.

22 oz. bottle shared by Willrunforbeer. Chimay goblet dark. Down with light deep ru y highlights. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits of (plum, raisins) and perhaps molasses.

Flavor is much the same as the aroma with mild chocolate in the backend. My one huge complaint is the thin watery texture. Mildly astringent but not distracting. I wouldn’t really seek this out again.

Got in a trade with swingracex. 22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, oats, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, oats, and light earthy hops; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, oats, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Slight roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, oats, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, oats, and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice oatmeal stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, oats, and light earthy hop flovors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap at Alpine, pours an amber-tinged with a small beige head. Aroma is very dry and toasty, like a typical Irish stout. Flavour brings out roasted malt, very dry toasty notes, and some woody notes. Thin bodied but nicely dry and toasty. Solid stuff.
