Bottle online from The Salopian Brewery. Pours a deep amber colour with a thin white head. Faint aromas of caramel, citrus orange and toasty bread. Taste has the same notes from the aroma with some peppery spice and a mild earthy hop on the finish. Medium body, fair carbonation and slightly oily mouthfeel. Nice enough but overrated beer in my opinion.

On cask at George Hotel, Lichfield - Clear amber body, lacing white top. Nose is malty with some cereal and biscuit notes. Nice bitter taste with more fruity malt tastes coming through. Solid effort.

ORIGINAL REVIEW Cask at Olde Buck’s Head, Shrewsbury (not listed in RateBeer). Poured a golden orange with a small white head. Not really a lot to say about this beer. The nose was vague oranges and malts, the taste was caramel and malts and there was some slight bitterness in the finish. Mainly seemed to be terribly bland and lacking any taste at all. UPDATE JUNE 2021 Cask at Ebenezers, Nantwich. Left for 20 mins after pouring to warm up. Pours a golden orange with a small off-white head and good lacing. Mainly malts in the aroma which continue in the mouth along with floral hops and a creamy texture. Some nuts in there as well. Finish is slightly dry. Still a pretty bland beer, but better kept by Ebenezers than the previous locations.

Gravicask at Spa Valley 9th Beer & Cider Festival. Shared with Finn. Clear warm golden body, naked at the top, fair lacing. Inviting smell of leafy hops. Oily and leafy hops to the taste character with subdued malty sweetness beneath. Balancing bitterness to the ending. Nice bitter version. (Tunbridge Wells 18.10.2019).

Once you start drinking craft it's easy to be dismissive of the simple things such as a nice crisp lager or a GOOD bitter because there are so many grim examples of both but this is a good bitter. Everything you'd expect with the perfect-pint look and a bit of malty caramel in there and some fairly basic hop but chicks in a bit of zestiness too to liven it up. Not thrilling but really solid
