No.24 in the Black Damnation series is Octopussy! This variant sees the infamous Black Albert 13% Belgian Royal Stout, barrel-aged in Bruichladdich Octomore Scotch whisky barrels from Islay. Complex, chocolatey, smokey, peaty, and nutty.

Poured from a 33 cl bottle, bottled on 07/07/2022. Aroma is full of dark chocolate and roast notes. Lighter notes of dark caramel, burnt sugar, molasses and treacle. Hints of leather and ash. Medium light peated whiskey notes with hints of oak. Light alcohol notes. Pours black with a medium large, thick, creamy, mocha head that recedes to a small film that lingers on the edges. Fairly high amount of lacing and long legs. Flavor is fairly sweet, but not on the pastry level. Lots of dark and bakers chocolate with quite a bit of dark caramel and toffee notes as well in the finish. Lighter notes of roast, molasses, and burnt sugar. Faint ash and leather notes. Moderately strong bitterness and medium alcohol notes. Light peated whiskey notes with hints of oak. Mouthfeel is full bodied and a bit sticky, but again not on the pastry level with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really solid beer. I have these Black Damnations so infrequently that I forget how good they can be. This one was great and I don't even like heavily peated whiskey.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Nose is very heavy on the peated whiskey, along with soy sauce, molasses, and cocoa. Flavour is iodine-heavy, with plenty of dry peated whiskey, a little soy sauce and cola, molasses, and cocoa. Fairly thin palate considering the high gravity — I guess Black Albert is constructed quite light-bodied these days. A bit lacking in refinement but you gotta love that intense Octomore character. Tasty.

Bottle picked up from Drankgigant webshop Vlissengen Netherlands and consumed sat in Frank at Studentenstadt, München Thursday 13th July 2023. Pours black in colour with a slim beige head on top. Some peatiness on the nose and mouth, big roasty vibes with bitter dark chocolate, a little boozy, some liquorice, it's good but another in this series that isn't setting the world on fire.

Draft pour at The Sovereign. Poured a pitch black, black as night, color with tan head. Aroma was huge tobacco, huge peat. Lots and lots of peat in this one. Huge. Got a figgy, dried fruit and chocolate, tobacco finish. I didn't like it at first, but I started to enjoy it and really liked it by the end. Not sure this was the best option after 3 hours of drinking Belgian beers at a festival, but here I was at the Sovereign, drinking this beer.

Plenty of peat smokey moss here. Roast, some coffee and a little perfume boozy sense. Black pour with decent initial head. Bitter and perfume boozy sweet finish. A million times better than froggy. Tap at Sovereign.

33cl bottle, vintage 19/05/2020, bottled: 07/07/2022. A black beer, a head is almost medium and brown. Aroma has liquorice, sweet and dried fruits, some peat. Taste has liquorice, salt liquorice, peat, quite a lot of sweetness of maltyness. Full bodied, slight stickyness. Balanced, peat is there but the barreling is not too strong.
