2/1/2022. Bottle at the New Year beer share. From Northumbrian Gifts. Pours very dark brown with a small frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, dark fruits. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Moderate body, slightly creamy, average carbonation. Pretty decent.

On cask at Barrels Ale House in Berwick upon Tweed - deep red black body off white head. Nose is toasty and roasted malts with coffee there but all is a bit muted. Taste is a bit livelier with a nice finish. Solid oily mouthfeel is the champ with this one though.

This is about as generic and bog-standard a porter as you could find. Which is okay, I like porters, but it’s beers like this that have me using Ratebeer because the chances of me remembering anything about it seem pretty slim.

6th Feb 2015: shared bottle in De Bierboom (Brugge) during a beer exchange. Black body with a ruby hue, lightly tanned head. Roasted maltiness all the way here: the nose had coffee and dark chocolate notes. The taste followed along in the same way, smooth body feel: slight bitterness in the finish, otherwise a semi-sweet malty Porter with plenty going on in the flavours.

Bottle from Fenwick, Newcastle.
Appearance - Black, ruby edges, thick tan head, reasonable lacing.
Aroma - Roasted malt...burnt notes..earthy notes...bit of yeast...slight savoury
Taste - Roasted malt..bit of burnt toast...chocolate..light coffee..touch of wood...some earth...well balanced.
Palate - Soft carb, silky smooth and creamy, medium body. Finish of roasted malt...bit of cocoa powder...some lingering roast then clears well.
Overall - Well made, flavoursome, easy drinking porter (for 5.2%). This is actually a bit better than when I had it cask in Newcastle over a month ago.
