Named after the coulter big cone pine tree is a well balanced I.P.A. It brings the style of I.P.A. back to its roots. Brewed with a hint of rye for head retention and a deeper malt character, this brew has the best of all worlds, great hop aroma, a strong body and deceiving strength.

Bottle from Bottle Dog, Kings X, London. Poured a clear amber colour crowned with an off-white head. Nose had some grapefruit, earthy hop and melon but a bit muted. Flavour was similar with a little rye and a solid sweet malt spine. Hops somehow a little smothered. Bitternes ok, but not completely satisfying. Ok IPA if a tad disappointing.

On tap at Kulshan, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out ginger, cinnamon and roasted pumpkin. Flavour is thankfully not too dominated by the spices, but they do sort of take over from the subtler base beer. Nice robustness to this and well-balanced - just not a fan of these pumpkin spiced beers. Good for what it is.

Bottle split at Leightons cloud house, thanks to Foigus, 02/09/14. Lightly hazed golden with a well appointed off white covering that retains. Nose is light plastic, bitter orange, pale malt, straw, tangerine. Taste comprises citric sherbets, grass, earthy hops, tangerine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Plastic burps ensued. So so - the plastic nose lets this one down and the hops were pretty limited.

Sample at Pint House. Pours a cloudy pale amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Medium body with flavors of mildly spicy hops, roast malt and fruit. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Flavour is light caramel, tangy orange peel, tropical fruit, light metal. Assertive smooth bitterness, touch of resin. Palate is medium bodied, highish carbonation. Decent.

Bottle thanks to Fergus. It pours clear orange-amber with a small white head. The nose is soft orangey citrus, marmalade, piney resin and sweet plastic. The taste is crisp, bitter, pine, light resin, lemon peel, some alcohol, plastic and metallic notes with a dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. No real depth. A bit plasticy...

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Fergus. Pours clear amber-gold with a frothy white head. The nose has ripe citrus, melon, orange. Medium sweet flavor with piney bitterness, dry pale malts, mango, grapefruit, orange rind, medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with further piney bitterness, some toasted grass and grain, light dry caramel, bread. Not bad.
