Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double malt beer produced using 100% high quality barley malt. This gives it a full, caramelised malt flavour and an intense aroma of roasted malt. Its distinctive amber colour originates from the type of malt used when brewing, a special malt which is dried and roasted.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear medium amber with big head that dissapates quickly. Aroma is light roasted malt, a little lacing, medium body, light carbonation, and a little sticky. Taste is light roasted malt and some hops in the finish. Not that great.

11.2 oz bottle into dimpled mug. Pours a deep bright copper amber hue with a large head that takes a few minutes to recede, leaving a blanket of foam. Aroma is very malty sweet; almost cloying. Caramel, alcohol, some fruit (cherries?) are dominant in the nose. Taste is sweet with a touch of sour in the finish; no bitterness. Flavors include cinnamon, molasses, raisins, sweet bread. Carbonation and body are medium. I remember reading that this was one of Michael Jackson’s top 500 beers and couldn’t believe a Moretti product made the list. I can understand why now. It’s a pretty complex beer compared to the pale lager the brewery is better known for.

Bottle as shown. Pours a dark amber with a small frothy off white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a sweet roasted malt with raisin. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet malt and caramel with a bitter finish. A good doppelbock.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear, rather dark brown colour, mid-sized off-white, neraly beige head. Sweetish malty nose. Full-bodied, lots of malt and roasetd malts, as well as herbs. Dry and resiny hops tune in towards the finish. The alcohol gives it a warming touch.

Bottiglia: Clear, ruby-amber coloured, quickly vanishing small off-white head; solid sweet caramelly nose, molasses, roast-malt and some bitterness included; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied, soft MF; chocolate and faint herbal hops in the sweet malty, warming and alcoholic finish with an increasing (malty + hoppy) bitterness in the aftertaste. Fine, well balanced Doppelbock......

Bottle. Poured a clear light brown with a slight red hue and a thin off-white head. Aroma was full of sweet malts as well as a bit of a roasted undertone. Flavor was sweet from the malts with notes of cereal and grain.
